ConclusionThe purpose of this module was to provide participants with an introduction to the recognition of dementia. In particular, four content focus areas were addressed:
As you have learned, the identification and diagnosis of dementia is complexwith the investigative process involving several steps and input from a range of health care professionals. Whilst the focus of this module was on clinical assessment-it is critical that, during screening and assessment, health care workers acknowledge the "personhood" of an individual with dementia. In practice, this involves providing a supportive environment for the person with dementia and their family that allows adequate explanation and preparation for clinical assessment to be given.
